BOTO Design was hired by a client to design a new, ground-up 15,000 sf residence located at “The Reserve” Golf Community in Indian Wells, CA. Strict desert landscaping requirements, large expansive glass sliding doors, and stacked stone exterior help the low-slung, single-story structure blend seamlessly into the hillside. BOTO Design used a refined, simple palette of poured-in-place concrete walls with ipe wood floors and ceilings throughout to set a contemporary, but “soft” look. A centralized pop-up runs over the home's main common areas, flooding it with natural light and providing glimpses of the blue sky beyond. The L-shaped dwelling is anchored by a separate guest house and detached pool cabana, complete with a full kitchen and pizza oven. Additional amenities include an Olympic length pool with a diving platform, separate spa, and fire pit, uniquely set into a natural rock alcove.
